At John Swan Ltd on Monday a larger show of well fleshed hoggs were forward to a ringside of buyers. Hoggs peaked at £110 for Beltex from Mr Stewart McCormack, Luggate, Stow, going to North Country Primestock & JA Waters, Selkirk. Top price per kg was a pen of Beltex from WA Hall & Son weighing 40kg and raising 233.8p per kg to Worsley Wholesale Butchers Also on Monday the firm held the annual show & sale of Prime Cheviot hoggs on behalf of the Cheviot Sheep Society. Champion pen of 20 was awarded to M/s JG Scott, Kirklands, Ancrum weighing 41kgs realising £89.50 to the judge Mr Paul Barker of Woodhead Brothers, Clone reserve went to Mr I Warden, Skelfhill, Hawick weighing 46kgs and making £90.50, also going to the judge. Another good show of cast ewes & rams were forward upholding recent high rates, selling to £150 for Suffolks from Huntington, Lauder and Texels from Home Robertson, Over Howden.

At their weekly prime stock sale John Swan Limited had forward and sold 841 Hoggs and 201 Ewes.

Larger numbers present with many tail end lots harder to cash, fleshy types easy to get premiums.

At John Swan Ltd on Monday a quality show of sheep met a sharper trade selling to £105 for Texels from Mrs P Anderson, Headshaw, Lauder and 228.4p per kg for a pen of Texels from the Firm of Nixon & Co, Oakwood, Selkirk.
Another large show of ewes & rams were forward. Big heavy ewes met with a similar trade with leaner and plainer types being considerably dearer. Trade peaked at £157 for 7 Suffolks from JS Dun & Ptnrs, Shoestanes, Heriot.
